The End, and The Beginning
((Sorry for the long post. And Sirix and Purple, there is nothing new in this.))
1999, Mecca, during the Hajj, a group of Islamic clerics spoke out. This is a surviving fragment written down by a believer prior to the religious wars.
“My friends. Across this world Allah calls to all of us. He calls to us for one reason, and one reason alone; to call us to Jihad. The infidels infest this land like a swarm of locusts, devouring all that is good and true. We must prevent this, or they will see Allah gone forever!
Cast your eyes to Israel. They have taken Arab land from us, they have imprisoned our people, and they have killed our brothers.
And it is not them alone whose fault this is. America supports them. Another group of infidels, this time infinitely more powerful, whose sole purpose is to root out the true believers of Allah and his glorious Prophet Mohammed.”
The Muslims clung to every word the clerics had said, and now they cried for the blood of the infidel.
Palestine immediately declared its support for the movement, and granted permission for military forces to be stationed on its land.
In Israel, the prime minister sent out a desperate plea for help to its allies in America. In response two carrier groups, which complementing its force of Marines with two extra armies where launched.
In addition to that, one hundred fighters, half a dozen UAVs and twenty stealth bombers were also flown over.
A month after the deployment the stage was set for the largest war the Middle East had seen in modern times. On one side where hundreds of thousands of fanatical Muslims, in addition to their normal armies, while on the other American and Israeli troops.
However, on November the 15th, 1999, Pope John Paul II issued a press release from the Vatican, stating that the Americans had been Excommunicated, and called for a crusade against them, for aiding heretics.
A shocked silence covered the world. An excommunication was unheard of in modern times, and for such a highly Christian nation, it was believed to be impossible.
In the proceeding days riots occurred. Hordes of Christians took to streets, demanding a response from the white house, but none was forth coming. The president called for units of the home guard to enforce curfews around the country, and had the secret service increase its security surrounding him.
On the 23rd of November, the president was assassinated, gunned down by members of his own protective unit.
Despite European news readers predicting an outcry of support for the dead man’s family, they were far from the truth.
Central and East Americans celebrated. Following the death of their leader, the vice-president would take control in the interim months, and would remove the American soldiers from the Middle East, hopefully winning back favour with the pope.
The following day American troops were not withdrawn from the Middle East, but instead more where deployed. A private conference between the Pope and the new President of the United States had ended with a public ultimatum from the pope, declaring that if the United States did not use the full extent of its military power to attempt to purge the heathens and the heretics from the world their excommunication would not be revoked.
In the middle of the night of November the 24th, entrenched American troops quickly moved out of position, killing hundreds of Israeli soldiers, and destroying many key points of its defence.
Once the army corps had reunited, they formed a spearhead and pushed towards the sea, where it was planned that they would meet up with their ships and be evacuated. Halfway there, one a tank division broke off, on a mission to capture an Israeli airport where over five hundred US air force personally had been taken hostage, and there planes impounded when the Israelis learnt of the US treachery.
Excluding minor skirmishes, the main American force quickly reached there waiting ships. Following this, the American naval commander ordered that all fighter aircraft be launched to cover the strike force, while on the support ships, nuclear and cruise missiles where readied for launch.
As dawn crept of the horizon, the American force spotted the base. Surrounding it was a full regiment of Israeli tanks, the Merkava Mark three, in addition to a regiment of troops. In the face of this force, the American commander sought permission to disengage, but the responding permission was immediately revoked by their commander in chief.
At seven thirty on November the 17th, 1999 world war three is officially deemed to have broke out as a trio of cruise missile erupted around the Israeli tanks.
Following this the Americans fired, desperate to destroy as many of their foes as possible before there numerically superior opponent could.
Despite their desperation, the Israelis quickly overwhelmed the smaller American force, resulting in minimum loses to themselves, while the American force was completely destroyed.
Following these events, an emergency meeting of NATO was arranged, with America to be excluded from the discussion.
At the completion of the meeting it was declared that America was to be removed from NATO, and that an envoy would be sent to The Russian Federation with an invitation to join NATO in joint defence against possible American aggression.
With an enthusiastic and immediate Russian response to the offer, northern Europe believed it would be safe from American aggression.
In America, the President ordered that all Americans units currently evacuating return to land and begin combat operations with the intent to capture Jerusalem. The commander refused, and aboard the ships a civil war begun. The greater number of troops in the theatre where rebels, and the loyalist forces where quickly put down, at the expense of an aircraft carrier and half its escort.
In mainland America, another civil war begun, between the west and central United States, as the evangelicals and the non-believers clashed over the war in Israel. The President ordered that troops support the centre, but they deserted by the thousands, many taking high tech equipment with them.
((I will post more when I have access to the computer it is on. So, that will be tomorrow. And no, it is not nearly finished, sorry))

Re: The End, and The Beginning
Sorry to cut into this, but your history is backwards. At Vatican 2 (1960's-ish), the Catholics recognized the Jews as god's chosen people as well...Just thought I'd point that out.

And a fun real world fact is that the current Pope was in the Hitler Youth.KaiserGünterI wrote:Sorry to cut into this, but your history is backwards. At Vatican 2 (1960's-ish), the Catholics recognized the Jews as god's chosen people as well...Just thought I'd point that out.
